how useful are they really? i live in california and every goddamn parent tells my ass to take spanish so i can talk to all the mexicans. but can you really talk to mexicans after 3 or 4 years of high school spanish?

instead of heeding to their advice, i've taken french for 5 years (well i'm finishing up my fifth one). i can't talk to no canadians, but i still think it'll be more useful in the long run.
